Building a 1400HP RB26/30: Josh’s Next-Level Upgrade
Share
Josh set out to take his build to the next level, swapping his single-cam RB30 for a far more capable twin-cam RB26/30 setup. With the new combination in place, a range of supporting upgrades were needed to ensure the car could handle the increased performance and deliver it reliably.
On the fabrication side, we custom-made new cold-side intercooler piping, incorporating a Turbosmart blow-off valve and securing everything with Plazmaman clamps for a clean, high-quality finish. A drive-by-wire accelerator pedal was installed to suit the updated setup, along with a Haltech ECU to provide precise engine management.
To support the exhaust system, we fabricated a new turbo dump pipe, complete with an exhaust valve exiting through a bullhorn. The fuel and oil systems were fully plumbed using Speedflow 200 Series components, ensuring durability and efficiency under high performance conditions. We also fitted a System 1 remote oil filter for improved serviceability and added a front wheel speed sensor for enhanced data monitoring.
Further performance upgrades included the installation of a Nitrous Express system, giving the car an extra edge when needed. Structurally, we reinforced the chassis with subframe connectors running from the lower arms to the front chassis rails, and upgraded the rear chassis mounts to 1/2-inch bolts with bushes for added strength.
Additional supporting modifications included mounting an Astra power steering pump in the boot with custom plumbing, and installing a transmission cooler in front of the radiator to help manage temperatures. For safety, a tailshaft loop was added around the front uni joint, and a new fuel tank — supplied by Josh — was installed.
This build is aimed squarely at off-street performance events such as roll racing and Cootamundra, so every component has been carefully selected to handle serious power. The engine itself was built and is being tuned by Mick’s Motorsport, and the package is capable of producing an impressive 1,400 horsepower.
All up, this is a serious setup designed to perform at the highest level while maintaining reliability and safety where it counts.
